Bears Draft Trubisky

Most  Chicago Bears fans say the Bears have never had a franchise quarterback. The press have been all over the quarterbacks as long as I have been a live.  A list that starts with Bobbie Douglass 1968 to 1975. Then came my favorite three that switched off from 1975 to 1982 Bob Avellini, Mike Phipps, and Vince Evans. The only bright spot those years was the greatest running back of all time Walter Payton carried the bears and a revamping defense led by defense coordinator Buddy Ryan.  Then in 1982 the Bears drafted a quarterback that could have been the best if injuries did not catch up to him, Jim McMahon played 1982 to 1988 but after 1985 he hardly played.  In 1985 it was Steve Fuller. In 1986 it was Doug Flutie time here in Chicago. In 1987 Mike Tomzcak ,  got his opportunity and  1988 it became Jim Harbaugh show. in fact those two switched off till 1990 then it became Harbaugh show till 1993. In 1994 Erik Kramer became the Quarterback till 1998 but he like McMahon kept getting hurt so they kept bringing in more help 1994 Steve Walsh, 1996 Dave Krieg, 1997 traded for Rick Mirer,1998 Moses Moreno and Steve Stenstrom. In 1999 they drafted Cade McNown and brought in Shane Matthews and Jim Miller. In 2002 it became the Chris Chandler show till he proved he could not do anything then it became Henry Burris for the rest of the season. That’s right the same Henry Burris that won three Grey cup championships in the Canadian football League (1998,2008,2016).  Then it became the Rex Grossman  and Kyle Orton time and with a rebuilt defense again led by middle linebacker Bryan Urlacher and special teams Devin Hester took us back to the Super Bowl in 2007 but lost to the Indianapolis Colts. Then in 2009 the bears traded for Jay Cutler, and after 1 playoff season in 9 seasons. Time to move on.

So they signed free agents Mike Glennon and Mark Sanchez. So why did they draft Mitch Trubisky.mitch Trubisky.jpg

One, pressure from the press and the fans for years saying that we never had a franchise quarterback. With all the pressure put on all of the other Bears general manager for getting the quarterback position wrong. And General manager Ryan Pace saying he is going to draft quarterbacks in the draft when he first was hired and did not,. the first two years. So year three he had too.

Two we all know that head coach John Fox was not really his hire. So this will buy him time if this season goes for crap again. Because they both wont survive if the bears have another 3 and 13 season. So John Fox has to produce with the players Pace gives him this year or he will be looking for another head coach by the end of the year.Ryan Pace.jpg

Three, proving to himself that he can draft the payers he wants to make a good football team.  After not being able to pick his own head coach, listening to Fox on the first two drafts and going backwards. He felt this his time to make a statement to prove to the organization that this is his team.

After all the bad judgments this team has done over the years I am glad to see we have a general manager that will take a risk, but I do believe he paid too much when he moved up one spot to take Trubisky. And after all the years McCaskey’s  has handled this team its time to move on from the old regime to a new one.

That the way I see it
