Should the Bears Trade for a Quarterback or Draft One?

The Chicago Bears have been linked to making trade for starting quarterbacks in the NFL since their season has ended after the loss to the New Orleans Saints in the playoffs.

First there were links that they were going to make a trade for Matthew Stafford of the Detroit Lions. The Los Angeles Rams beat them to it by trading away Jared Goff. Then there were rumors of trading for Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings. Then there were stories that there talking to the Philadelphia Eagles for Carson Wentz.

Here are my thoughts on trading for quarterback.

All the quarterbacks that the Bears supposable trying to trade for, have not won anything. Nick Foles won the Eagles Super bowl, not Carson Wentz. The Bears already have Nick Foles. Ask yourself, what have they done and why would it change under the great leadership of the Chicago Bears.

Nick Foles Superbowl LII MVP came in relief in game three of the 2020 season against the Atlanta Falcons and scored three Touchdowns in the fourth quarter for a Bears 30 to 26 victory. By the way Mitchell Trubisky did the same thing in game one against the Detroit Lions. Now under the great leadership of

Matt Nagy the Bears average points scored under Nick Foles under center when he started was just under 17 points per a game. Trubisky average was 28 points per game. The Bears record during that time under Foles two wins and five losses. Trubisky had five wins and three losses and were not including Atlanta game. So how can we trust a leadership that starts a quarterback because he gave the Bears the best chance to win and after a 2 and o start, they bench him in game three and he does not return till after Foles get hurt at the end of the Viking game. Trading for a quarterback makes no sense to me.

If the Bears try to trade for Deshaun Watson of the Houston Texans, you are definitely going to trade two first round picks and others for Watson. Is he worth it? Yes, but then you are not going to have picks to shore up your offensive line that you desperately need.

Now for drafting a quarterback, All the “great” quarterbacks will go early before the 20th pick in the draft. The only way the Bears will get one will be to trade up and that will cost them probably another first rounder besides the 20th pick. That is too much for a team that has a defense that are close to getting old.

Stay at 20 and pick an offensive lineman to help your future quarterback that you could wind up getting in the second or third round pick. One of those quarterbacks I like that should be available, is Kyle Trask from Florida.

Kyle Trask is a 6’5”, 240lbs quarterback that threw for 7,386 yards with 69 touchdowns and 15 interceptions in two plus years at Florida. Last year Kyle threw 4,283 yards with 43 touchdowns and 8 Interceptions.

There are others too consider like Kellen Mond from Texas A&M, Sam Ehlinger of Texas, David Mills of Stanford, or Ian Book Notre Dame.

If I am the General Manager of the Bears, I would draft Kyle Trask with the 52 overall draft picks. I do not think he will be available in the 3rd round, when the Bears are next up at 84th. I also would resign Trubisky to a one-year contract and have a three-quarterback preseason battle.

I know that drafting a quarterback does not help winning right now but if the Bears do not resign Allen Robinson at wide receiver and help that offensive line, then there not going to win now anyways.

This is the way I see it
